What do I do regarding the DVLA when selling my car?
Our goal is make selling a problem car as easy as possible. We know selling a car isn’t a regular occurrence for most people, and sorting the DVLA side of things can seem a little daunting.
This is why we handle the whole DVLA process for you when you sell your car to us, totally free of charge.
Once you have received the money from us, we will complete the change of ownership straight away. We notify the DVLA you have sold the car, and they will take the car out of your name immediately. You will get an email from the DVLA themselves to confirm it has been completed. You will also get a letter in the post from the DVLA to confirm. This leaves you nothing to do regarding the DVLA.
What happens with my Road Tax?
You will get a refund for any outstanding road tax once we complete the change of ownership. If you pay annually, you will get a cheque in the post from the DVLA with the outstanding road tax refund. If you pay your road tax monthly, your direct debits will come to an automatic stop. You will get confirmation the direct debit has ended in the confirmation email from the DVLA.
My Car is SORN
If your car has been at a garage or off the road, and you have SORN’d it, we can still complete the change of ownership as usual. The tax refund will have already been processed when you SORN’d the car, so you may have already been refunded for the outstanding tax.
I would prefer to complete the change of ownership myself
Not a problem at all. If you would like to complete the change of ownership yourself, just let us know. We’ll let you know what details to put on the form and talk you through the process. If you would like to complete the change of ownership yourself, please make sure it is done promptly after we pay you, and please make sure all details are correct. We are not liable for any fines or charges through failure to inform the DVLA correctly or promptly if you complete the change of ownership yourself.
I cannot find or do not have a V5C logbook.
No worries, we can still purchase your car. Please get in touch if this applies to you, and we will advise you on your options.
